RCI established a lymphedema management program in 1995. With certifications in both the LeDuc Method and Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy (CDP) for the treatment of lymphedema, we're able to offer help controlling your symptoms and the pain associated with lymphedema.
Lymphedema is caused by a blockage in the lymphatic system which prevents the protein rich fluids from draining properly. When the fluids build up, swelling occurs. While it most often occurs in the arms or legs, the build-up of fluid and swelling can actually occur in the hands, fingers, shoulders and chest as well. There's no cure for lymphedema, but careful attention and care to the affected area(s) can help make life bearable again.
Our comprehensive program consists of the evaluation and treatment based on your individual needs and in direct communication with your oncologist or referring physician. Primary and secondary lymphedema patients are seen for the following:
· manual lymph drainage
· education
· skin care
· prevention and control techniques
· compression support
· education of the family members for continuity of the program after discharge from therapy.
Give us a call at (302) 478-5240 to speak with us about lymphedema treatment options. We'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have or schedule an appointment with one of our physical therapists.
