Spinal Care / Neck and Back Pain

If you've ever fallen asleep while sitting in a chair, chances are you've experienced what it's like to suffer from neck and back pain. We've all woken up, at one time or another, to a stiff neck or a sore back. But for many others, neck and back pain become a debilitating and recurring issue.

According to the ACA,

  • One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.
  • Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work. In fact, back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections.
  • Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic—meaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer.
  • Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on back pain—and that’s just for the more easily identified costs.
  • Experts estimate that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some point.

Physical therapy can help reduce and relieve chronic and acute neck and back pain that may appear for a variety of reasons, including severe falls, auto accidents, poor posture, poor ergonomic work conditions, degenerated, ruptured or herniated discs, bone spurs, arthritis, and pulled muscles (just to name a few). All our therapists are trained in the McKenzie approach, an internationally recognized approach to the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic back problems. In fact, Consumer Reports Medical Guide rated exercise as the best option for the treatment of long-term back pain.

Exercise helps strengthen your muscles to provide the proper support for your back and neck. There are several simple positions that can help relieve lower back pain. See our rehab tip for additional information and a few lower back pain exercises.

Our certified therapists will work with you and your physician, chiropractor or dentist to construct an individualized program that helps manage your pain and symptoms. Through the use of state-of-the-art equipment and innovative treatment techniques, we'll work with you to strengthen your muscles and improve your flexibility and teaching you proper posture and activities of daily living techniques that can help you work towards improving your overall comfort and function while limiting your risk of recurrent neck and back pain.
